48 Hours in Liérganes

Getting there
You can go by bus or by train from Santander. The duration is 40 minutes approximately and you can check the timetables in internet, in
www.alsa.es and www.feve.es. If you go by your car from Santander, you must take this route, S-10, next A-8, next N-634 and CA-160.

Check in
In Liérganes, there are some hotels and inns (posadas) like “Hotel Miera***”, “Hotel Balneario de Liérganes***”, “Hotel El Cantábrico**”… “Posada Carpe Diem”, “Posada La Giraldilla”… The best option is “Hotel Miera”, because it is the most new, modern and very comfortable with Wi-Fi. Take a walk
“El Paseo del Hombre Pez” is the best place for walk, It is a walk along side to the river with trees and a beautiful views. Other option is walk for renaissance bridge and old quarter.

Lunch on the run
You can eat in “El Jaque Pub”, it is a tapas bar very cheap and very comfortable. You can taste Spanish omelet, “rabas” (a dish of pieces of calamari dipped in flour and then fried nuggets with different sauces, hamburgers, black pudding, mussels, sandwiches… There is a Martninelli Pizzeria too and It has take away food and it is situated in the centre village.

Window shopping
There are many shops in Liérganes like 2 souvenirs shops, cake shop, furniture shop, food shop and clothing shop.
The first souvenirs shop send “sobaos pasiegos” (sponge cakes), “quesadas pasiegas” (cheesecake), teacakes, figures…
The second one send t-shirts, sweaters, post of Liérganes and Cantabria, key rings, porcelain, crafts…
In Mª Luisa cake shop you can buy the “Sacristanes”, the typical dessert in the village and in Cantabria.

Take a view
Liérganes has beautiful views. If you go to the San Pantaleón church, you can see the all village and the most famous view is in the renaissance bridge from there you see “las tetas de Liérganes” are two mountains near that remember women's breasts. Liérganes is a renaissance village and you can see a nice houses and palaces in the natural environment.

Dinner with the locals
For dinner, there are a lot of restaurants in which you can taste the gastronomy of the area, for example “La Giraldilla”, “El Bodegón Casa Daniel”, “El Cantabrico”, “El Hombre Pez”... and a Mexican restaurant too, “El Bigote Mexicano”.

Sunday morning
On Sundays is the market with 20 stands in “el Paseo del Hombre Pez and the mass in San Pedro Ad Víncula church at 11:00.
On Saturday afternoons is typical eat chocolate with fried dough in the bars and restaurants and it is very famous.
