HOW TO SPEND A WEEKEND IN SANTA MARÍA DE CAYÓN

Getting there
It´s so easy, from Santander, by the S-10 motorway to San Salvador and later, the CA- 142 goes directly to Santa Maria, or by bus from Santander with dairly services. It´s only 20 minutes.

Check in
The best option is accommodation in a Casona of Cantabria, it´s different and typical from the region, and it´s not expensive, such as Casona Palacio Lloreda (00 34 942 555 747;
info@palaciodelloreda.com). The Santa María Tourism Office it´s in the “ La Estación Square” in Sarón (672241424).
Take a walk
Above Pisueña´s river, in Santa María de Cayón, are two bridges: “Colgante” and “del Diablo”, you can fish and walk along the river, surrounded of nature.

Lunch on the run
Saturday´s morning, you have the opportunity of tasting and buying different products in the Market of Sarón, one of the oldest in Cantabria. The customers are mostly from Santa Maria and they can help you in your shopping, if you doubt.

Window shopping
There aren´t modern shopping malls here, only in Santander. Here is better, cause, there are little shops with a very good dealing and you can find all necessary and cheaper.

Take a view
The “Monte Carceña” offers a fantastic view over Santander and there is a wonderful hermitage with cows around; the landscape in which it stands is peaceful and delightful.

Dinner with the locals
Local people likes, overcoat in the festivities, eating: sardines or steaks, black pudding and sausage, made in the street, among all; it´s a great experience.

Sunday morning: go to the temple
The best place to feel the religious atmosphere is in the church of Argomilla, open Sundays from 12:00 to 14:00.
